Unlike epoxy, which is rigid and will amber under UV exposure, aliphatic polyurethane is inherently flexible and UV-stable. Substrate Profiling
We diamond grind the concrete or liquid screed to remove laitance and achieve a CSP 3 surface profile. PU resin requires a clean, porous base with no contamination. Moisture readings are taken: RH must be below 75% unless an epoxy DPM primer is applied first.
Epoxy Primer Application
A two-pack epoxy primer is applied to seal and consolidate the substrate. Because PU is a thin self-levelling system, any pinholes or air pockets in the substrate will rise through the body coat as bubbles during application. The primer seals these before they can cause problems in the finished surface.
Scratch Coat and Levelling
An epoxy scratch coat is trowelled on to fill minor irregularities and perfectly level the floor. Self-levelling PU will pool in low spots if the base is not flat. This step is essential for achieving a uniform 2 to 3mm finished thickness across the entire area.
Polyurethane Body Coat
The two-part PU resin is mixed on-site in calibrated ratios and poured onto the floor. It is distributed with a pin rake and spiked roller to release surface tension and allow it to self-smooth to a flawless level. Pigment is incorporated into the mix: the colour runs throughout the body coat, not just the surface.
Aliphatic UV-Stable Topcoat
Once the body coat achieves initial cure, typically 16 to 24 hours, a clear aliphatic polyurethane topcoat is applied. This protects the colour coat, determines the final sheen level, and provides the UV stability that prevents ambering in sunny rooms. Full cure and chemical resistance is achieved at 7 days.
Systems and Options

- Standard Aliphatic PU Floor at 2 to 3mm: The most popular residential resin floor. Self-smoothing, seamless, available in any solid RAL or NCS colour. UV-stable topcoat ensures colour consistency over years. Compressive strength of 50 to 60 N/mm². Compatible with underfloor heating up to 28°C flow temperature.
- Comfort Resin System at 4 to 6mm: A high-density rubber isolation mat is bonded to the substrate first, then the PU resin is applied over the top. The rubber layer provides a noticeably softer feel underfoot and delivers meaningful acoustic dampening, reducing impact sound transmission between floors in multi-storey homes and converted apartments.
