Garage Floor Coatings in Surrey

Garage Floor Coatings in Surrey

A bare concrete garage floor is porous, dusty, and permanently stained the moment oil or fuel touches it. We install professional-grade epoxy and polyaspartic garage floor coatings for homeowners across Surrey, from Cobham and Esher to Farnham and Camberley, that eliminate concrete dust, resist every automotive fluid, and withstand the shear stress of turning vehicle tyres. These are not DIY paint kits. We use industrial two-part resin systems applied over mechanically prepared concrete, delivering a surface that bonds chemically and mechanically to the slab rather than sitting on top of it.

In our 15 years working across Surrey, the most common failure we see with garage floors is hot-tyre pick-up from cheap roller paints. The coating softens under brake heat and peels away in sheets when the car moves. We recently worked at a triple garage in Weybridge being converted into a classic car storage and detailing space. We applied a full flake broadcast system with a polyaspartic topcoat: UV-stable, impervious to oil and brake fluid, and visually identical to a premium showroom floor. The client drove on it 18 hours after we finished the final coat. That result is only possible with the right system on a properly prepared slab.

Garage Floor Coatings in Surrey Installation Process

1

Moisture and Substrate Assessment

Garage slabs in Surrey properties, particularly older ones, often lack adequate damp proof membranes. We use hygrometers to measure relative humidity before specifying the system. High moisture readings require an epoxy DPM primer before any decorative coating is applied, or the coating will blister.

2

Diamond Grinding

We grind the entire concrete surface wall-to-wall using dust-extracted diamond grinders, removing oil contamination, previous paint, and surface laitance. Oil-saturated areas receive a specialist oil-tolerant epoxy primer that bonds even where contamination has penetrated deep into the slab. Standard primers will not bond over oil-soaked concrete.

3

Crack and Spall Repair

Cracks are chased open, cleaned, and filled with structural epoxy mortar. Spalled or pitted areas are cut square and filled flush. All repairs achieve a compressive strength of at least 60 N/mm² before the coating system goes on.

4

Basecoat and Flake Broadcast

A pigmented epoxy basecoat is applied by roller. For flake systems, vinyl colour flakes are immediately broadcast into the wet resin to full rejection, meaning the entire surface is covered with no gaps. This creates a multi-tonal, granite-like appearance that hides dirt, tyre marks, and minor scuffs between cleans.

5

Clear Polyaspartic Topcoat

Once the basecoat cures and excess flake is swept and vacuumed away, we apply a high-build, UV-stable polyaspartic clear topcoat. Polyaspartic is harder and more UV-resistant than standard epoxy, preventing hot-tyre pick-up and yellowing in bright or south-facing garages. With a fast-cure polyaspartic system, the floor is vehicle-ready within 16 to 24 hours.

Systems and Options

We offer two primary garage floor systems, both installed over mechanically prepared concrete:

  • Solid Colour Epoxy with PU Topcoat: A smooth, high-gloss finish in a chosen RAL grey, slate, or custom colour. Cost-effective, extremely tough, and ideal for general storage, workshops, and home gyms. Resists oil, petrol, antifreeze, and brake fluid. Full vehicle cure at 3 to 5 days.
  • Flake Broadcast with Polyaspartic Topcoat: The premium option. Decorative vinyl flakes in a range of colour blends create a terrazzo or granite visual. The polyaspartic clear topcoat provides superior UV stability, no yellowing under sunlight, and eliminates hot-tyre pick-up. Vehicle-ready within 16 to 24 hours with a fast-cure formulation.

Benefits of Garage Floor Coatings in Surrey

  • Resistant to hot-tyre pick-up: the polyaspartic topcoat will not soften under warm vehicle tyres
  • Impervious to engine oil, petrol, antifreeze, brake fluid, and most automotive chemicals
  • Stops concrete dusting permanently, no more grey powder on shoes and stored items
  • Compressive strength exceeds 70 N/mm², handles trolley jacks, axle stands, and heavy equipment
  • Flake systems hide dirt and minor scuffs between cleans, maintaining a showroom appearance
  • UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat prevents yellowing in garages with natural light or glazing
  • Fast-cure polyaspartic options allow vehicle parking within 16 to 24 hours of completion
  • Seamless surface with no joints: dropped nuts, bolts, and small parts are instantly visible on the floor

Who Is Garage Floor Coatings in Surrey Suitable For?

Our garage floor coatings are specified most often for domestic garages used as vehicle storage, classic car workshops, home gyms, and home offices. Across the Surrey commuter belt, particularly in Cobham, Esher, Weybridge, and the Brooklands area, we work regularly with car enthusiasts who want a floor that reflects their investment in the vehicles stored on it. A flake broadcast polyaspartic system on a freshly prepared slab looks and performs like a professional detailing studio floor.

We also install for homeowners who simply want to eliminate the dust and staining of a bare concrete garage before using the space for storage or as an extension of the home. A solid grey epoxy with a satin topcoat takes a working garage and makes it a clean, practical room that can be mopped rather than swept. Both systems represent a significant upgrade over DIY roller paints, which typically delaminate within one to two years under vehicle use.
