Moisture Testing

Before we touch the floor, we use hygrometers and calcium chloride tests to measure relative humidity within the concrete slab. If moisture exceeds 75% RH, we apply a two-pack epoxy DPM-grade primer rated to resist hydrostatic pressure up to 4 bar. Skipping this step is the number one cause of osmotic blistering in domestic epoxy floors. We never skip it.

Mechanical Preparation

We use dust-extracted planetary diamond grinders to remove all laitance, old paints, adhesives, and surface contamination. This opens the concrete pores and achieves a CSP 3 to 4 surface profile, the minimum required for a reliable mechanical bond. Without this profile, the resin is simply sitting on the surface rather than keying into the slab.

Crack Repair and Levelling

Static cracks are chased open with a diamond blade and filled with low-viscosity structural epoxy resin. Any lips, ridges, or uneven areas are corrected with a trowel-applied epoxy scratch coat before the body coat goes down. A self-levelling system poured over an uneven base will pool in low spots and produce an uneven finish.

Epoxy Body Coat Application

The two-part epoxy is mixed on-site and poured onto the floor, then distributed with a notched squeegee and back-rolled. For a full self-smoothing system, the resin levels under its own weight, eliminating roller marks entirely. Decorative aggregates or vinyl flakes can be broadcast into the wet resin at this stage for a granite or terrazzo effect.

Topcoat and Curing

A clear or pigmented polyurethane topcoat is applied once the body coat has achieved initial cure. This determines the final sheen level, adds UV stability, and protects the colour coat from scratch and chemical damage. The floor is barriered for a minimum of 24 hours and reaches its rated compressive strength after 7 days.

Systems and Options
