Substrate Preparation to Fine Profile
ESD floors require a high-quality, smooth, contamination-free base. Any inconsistency in the substrate creates inconsistency in the conductivity of the finished floor. We diamond grind to CSP 2 to 3 and ensure the surface is completely clean and dry before any ESD components are installed.
Copper Earth Grid Installation
A grid of highly conductive copper tape is laid across the entire floor area at specified intervals, typically 1 to 2 metre grid spacing. Each copper strip is mechanically fixed and electrically connected to designated earth points within the building's earthing system. We test continuity at every junction before proceeding. The integrity of this grid determines the performance of the entire system.
Conductive Primer Application
A specialised carbon-rich black conductive primer is applied over the copper grid, bridging between the grid lines and distributing the charge-dissipating capacity evenly across the entire floor area. This primer must achieve a specific resistance value before the topcoat is applied. We measure and document this at this stage without exception.
ESD Topcoat Application
The specified ESD-formulated epoxy or polyurethane topcoat is applied in the required colour. This topcoat is formulated with a controlled carbon loading that achieves the target resistance range, either ESD dissipative at 10 to the 6th through 10 to the 9th ohms, or conductive at 10 to the 4th through 10 to the 6th ohms, while providing the durability and chemical resistance of a standard resin floor.
Post-Installation Resistance Testing and Certification
Once fully cured, the floor is tested at multiple points across the area using a calibrated resistance measurement instrument to IEC 61340 test methods. Test results are documented in a numbered certificate issued to the client, recording measured resistance values at each test location and confirming compliance with the specified resistance range.

- Electrostatic Dissipative (ESD) Flooring: Slowly and safely drains static charge from personnel to earth, preventing discharge events that could damage sensitive microelectronics. - Conductive Flooring: Drains static charge very rapidly to earth. Required in ATEX zones where flammable gases, vapours, or explosive dust are present.
